Entry Ban Calculator

Overstayed your visa or residence permit?
Estimate the entry ban that may follow an overstay in Türkiye. The result depends on how long you overstayed and on how you leave the country: voluntarily at the border, after being caught, or under a deportation decision.
For information only, based on the law and published rates on the calculation date; it is not legal advice. Calculations powered by Emsal AI.
How entry bans work
Under Article 9 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection (No. 6458), foreigners who overstay their visa, visa exemption or residence permit may be banned from entering Türkiye. Leaving voluntarily and paying the fine at the border usually leads to a shorter ban, or none for short overstays. A ban does not end on its own if the fine remains unpaid.

How the Türkiye entry ban calculation works
This calculator shows the general entry ban period associated with an overstay: remaining in Türkiye after your lawful stay ends. It considers the overstay’s length, how you leave and whether the penalty fee is paid. The same overstay can produce different results under different departure conditions.
Enter “Your visa, visa exemption or residence permit ended on” and “Exit date”. Leave “Exit date” empty if you are still in Türkiye; the calculator uses today.
Under Article 9 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection (Law No. 6458), an entry ban may last up to 5 years. A serious threat to public order or public security can justify an extension of up to 10 additional years. The bands below derive from the migration authority’s announcement of 9 June 2020; they do not explain every individual ban.
For “How you leave”, select “Voluntarily, at the border gate”, “After being caught by the police or migration authority”, or “Under a deportation decision”.
Set “The fine is paid at departure” to reflect the payment circumstances.
Voluntary departure with the penalty fee paid
These bands require both voluntary departure and payment of the penalty fee. Payment alone does not place someone in this group or guarantee that no ban applies.
Use the actual dates. Someone leaving after the authorities detect the violation should not use this voluntary departure group.
Overstay of less than 3 months: no entry ban.
Overstay of 3–6 months: a 1-month entry ban.
Overstay of 6 months–1 year: a 3-month entry ban.
Overstay of 1–2 years: a 1-year entry ban.
Overstay of 2–3 years: a 2-year entry ban.
Overstay of more than 3 years: a 5-year entry ban.
Unpaid fees, detected overstays and deportation
A different group covers unpaid penalty fees, detected overstays, failure to comply with an invitation to leave and deportation. Even a short overstay can lead to an entry ban.
For “How you leave”, distinguish voluntary departure from departure after detection. These general bands remain subject to administrative restriction codes (tahdit kodu) and individual assessment.
Overstay of up to 3 months: a 3-month entry ban.
Overstay of 3–6 months: a 6-month entry ban.
Overstay of 6 months–1 year: a 1-year entry ban.
Overstay of 1–2 years: a 2-year entry ban.
Overstay of more than 2 years: a 5-year entry ban.
What the departure fine option means
“The fine is paid at departure” refers to the penalty fee (cezalı harç) under the Fees Law (Law No. 492). The amount varies according to nationality and reciprocity. The calculator does not calculate that amount; the checkbox helps identify the applicable entry ban group.
Expiry of the ban and payment of the outstanding fee are separate matters. Entry is not permitted while the debt remains unpaid, even after the ban period ends.
Residence permit refusals and individual assessment
A person whose residence permit application is refused is generally given 10 days to leave Türkiye. Leaving within that period does not result in an overstay. Enter “Residence permit refused: date you were notified (optional)” where relevant, and use “Days given to leave in the refusal” for the period actually granted.
For someone issued with an invitation to leave (terke davet), Article 58/7 of the implementing regulation and the migration authority’s announcement may provide a different outcome if departure is timely and the fee is paid. The precise ban period depends on individual assessment.
Restriction codes, public order assessments and circumstances specific to the case can change the outcome. The result is for information only and is not a definitive administrative decision.
Example: departure circumstances change the ban period
A person’s lawful stay ends on 10 January 2026. They leave voluntarily on 20 May 2026 and pay the penalty fee. The approximately 4-month overstay falls within the 3–6 month voluntary departure band. The entry ban is 1 month, lasting until 20 June 2026.
In another case, lawful stay ends on 1 March 2025 and the person leaves on 15 April 2026 after detection by the authorities. The approximately 13-month overstay falls within the 1–2 year band for that group, producing a 2-year entry ban. Both calculations depend on the overstay period and the departure circumstances.
Frequently asked questions
Does every visa overstay lead to an entry ban?
No ban is prescribed for an overstay of less than 3 months with voluntary departure and payment. Different departure circumstances or individual assessments may change that result.
Does paying the fine remove the entry ban?
Payment does not guarantee that no ban applies. The overstay’s length, restriction codes and public order assessments can still affect the result.
Can I enter after the ban expires if the fee remains unpaid?
Entry is not permitted until the debt is paid. Expiry of the ban and payment are separate conditions.
Does this calculator show the fine payable at departure?
No. The amount varies according to nationality and reciprocity. The payment option helps determine the entry ban group.
Does an overstay begin immediately after a residence permit refusal?
Generally, 10 days are granted for departure. Leaving within the granted period does not result in an overstay; check the period actually allowed.
Is the general table enough if I complied with an invitation to leave?
No. Timely departure and payment may produce a different outcome under Article 58/7 of the implementing regulation and the migration authority’s announcement. Individual assessment is required.
